McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women’s soccer team dropped its first overtime game of the season with a 2-1 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon at McPherson Stadium.
The defeat is McPherson’s third straight to give the Bulldogs a 2-6-0 overall record, while Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 6-3-0 overall.
Freshman forward Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) continues to be a sparkplug for the MC offense with her team-high fourth goal of the season in the 17th minute to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead. Gray’s goal came on a penalty kick after she was taken down in the box by the Eagles’ central defender.
However, the goal proved not enough as Oklahoma Wesleyan knotted the score at 1-1 in the 68th minute on a score by Amber Brown-Longoria.
The two sides remained deadlocked through the remainder of regulation and a majority of the first overtime period. Oklahoma Wesleyan would break the tie and earn the victory with a Bristol Clark in the 99th minute.
McPherson held a 12-10 edge in shots, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Additionally, the Bulldogs recorded four corner kicks, while OWU had none.
Gray led McPherson with three shots.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Central Christian College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (CST).
