McPherson, Kan. – After a
Cory Obermeyer (Emporia, Kan.) goal propelled the Bulldogs into the overtime, Central Christian found the back of the net in the 99
th minute, as the McPherson College men’s soccer team dropped a heartbreaker, 3-2, Wednesday night at Central Christian College.
The loss drops McPherson to 5-3-0 overall, while the Tigers improve to 6-3-0.
Central Christian opened the game as the aggressor, including a pair of would be goals that were called back due offsides calls. However, McPherson struck first on a
Kyle Smith (Wichita, Kan.) goal in the 16
th minute.
Despite the momentum for the Bulldogs, the Tigers tied the score in the 30
th minute before taking the lead 26 minutes later on a defensive mishap by McPherson to take a 2-1 lead. MC answered in the 73
rd minute when Obermeyer notched his first career goal to tie the score 2-2.
However, McPherson was held without a shot in the overtime and Central Christian scored the game winning goal at the 99:38 mark of the match.
Junior goalkeeper
Nathan Garrison (Wichita, Kan.) made four saves in 99 minutes in the loss, while Tarek Khalidi led the team with two shots.
McPherson returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 1, when they open KCAC play against the University of Saint Mary. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
