Women’s Soccer Travels to Central Christian Wednesday; Open’s KCAC Play Saturday

McPherson, Kan. –
The McPherson College women’s soccer team enters the week’s matches looking to end a three match winless streak, as the Bulldogs travel to Central Christian College for the fifth annual SOCR Benefit game on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 5:30 p.m. McPherson then returns home to open Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 5:30 p.m. against the University of Saint Mary.

Both matches this week will be video streamed via the Tiger Broadcast Network and at Macbulldogs.com.

The Bulldogs are 2-6-0 overall so far this season following a heart breaking 2-1 overtime loss against Oklahoma Wesleyan University last Saturday. MC opened the scoring on a Geneva Gray (Littleton, Colo.) penalty kick in the 17th minute. However, the Eagles answered with scores in the 68th minute and the 99th minute to earn the victory.

Despite a .512 shot on goal percentage, McPherson is struggling to find the back of the net, as opponents are outscoring McPherson 20-8. Gray leads the team with four goals, while Rachael Cornell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) is second with two.

Goalkeeper Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) ranks 30th nationally in total saves with 58 and 31st in saves per game with 7.250. The Plano, Texas native owns a 2.16 goals against average and .773 save percentage in eight starts this season.

Central Christian is 1-8-0 on the season and is currently on a seven-match win streak, including shutout losses against Bethel College (7-0), at Texas Wesleyan (8-0) and against Friends University (3-0).

The University of Saint Mary owns a 2-5-2 overall record following a 3-0 victory at York College Tuesday night. Previously, the Spires were on a seven match winless streak that included ties against Harris-Stowe and Illinois College.

Next week, McPherson remains home for a midweek matchup with Tabor College before continuing KCAC play at Ottawa University on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Noting Central Christian
  • The Tigers enter the week with a 1-8-0 overall record, including a 1-4-0 mark in home matches. CCC’s lone victory came on Sept. 2 when they knocked off Dallas Christian College, 7-0.
  • In their last four matches, opponents have outscored the Tigers 16-3, including shutouts against Texas Wesleyan and Friends University
  • Six different player have scored a goal for Central, including Krystina Powell, who leads the team with six.
  • Central is 0-6 against Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents this season.
 
Noting University of Saint Mary
  • USM is 2-5-2 overall this season following a road victory against York College (3-0) Tuesday night.
  • Prior to York, the Spires were winless in their last seven, including ties at Harris-Stowe and Illinois College
  • The Spires are averaging 1.67 goals per game this season.
  • Bobbi Lynn Hinkle, Ivory Baldwin and Claire Beebe make up nine of the teams 15 total goals in 2011. Hinkle leads the squad with four, while Baldwin owns three and Beebe has added two.
  • The Spires finished tied for seventh in conference play last season with a 5-12-0 overall record and 3-6-0 conference mark.
