The McPherson College women’s basketball team placed three players in double figures as the Bulldogs closed out its regular season series against Bethel College with a 70-65 win Saturday night at the McPherson Sport Center.
 
With the victory, McPherson improves to 11-9 overall and 6-4 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference action, while the Threshers fall to 8-9 on the season and 4-6 in the league.
 
Taylor Puttergill (Tryon, Neb.) posted her third double-digit scoring performance in the last four games with a team-high 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a 7-for-9 effort at the free throw line. Kt Porter (Wichita, Kan.) joined Puttergill in double figures with 14 points, while Kaylee Cramer (Healy, Kan.) posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
 
McPherson trailed for nine of the initial 11 minutes of the period before a Puttergill layup off a Bethel turnover gave the Bulldogs a 25-23 advantage with 9:37 left in the first. MC continued the momentum, outscoring Bethel 11-5 over the final six minutes of the period en route to a 39-30 lead at the break.
 
Bethel used an 11-0 run to open the second half to take a 41-39 lead. McPherson, however, answered with a 12-2 spurt of their own, capped by a pair of Taylor Schrag (Moundridge, Kan.) free throws, to make the game 51-43 with 11:10 left in regulation.
 
The Threshers would continue to chip away at the MC lead, pulling as close as 63-61 with just under four minutes remaining, but the Bulldogs converted 5-of-5 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
 
McPherson finished the night shooting 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from the field and 75.7 percent (28-of-37) at the foul line. Additionally, the Bulldogs held a 52-48 edge in rebounding, but turned the ball over 20 times.
 
Bethel converted 30.7 percent (23-of-75) attempts from the field and was led in scoring by Jessica Muckenthaler, who scored a team-high 15 points.
 
McPherson returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 26, when they host Tabor College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).
