McPherson, Kan. – Jordan Crawford (McPherson, Kan.) posted his second straight double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while
Aaron Frazier (McPherson, Kan.) added a game-high 19 points to power the No. 5 McPherson College men’s basketball team to a 76-48 win over Tabor College Thursday evening at the McPherson Sport Center.
With the win, McPherson ties the program’s single season wins total, as the Bulldogs improve to 21-2 on the season and 10-1 in KCAC play. The loss drops the Blue Jays fall to 9-13 overall and 5-6 in league play.
“I thought the first half was one of the best we have played all year,” said McPherson head coach Tim Swartzendruber. “Our defensive effort was great. We made Tabor work hard for shots and did a great job on the glass. Offensively, we passed the ball well and hit open shots. Now we must shift our focus to Sterling. That will be a big challenge.”
The two teams traded baskets to open the half before a Frazier layup and three free throws from
Samson Shivers (Houston, Texas) sparked a 26-7 run that gave the Bulldogs a 30-11 lead midway through the opening period. The Bulldogs continued the surge, aided by five 3-point baskets from five different individuals, to claim a 50-26 advantage at the break.
McPherson shot 44.7 percent from the field in the opening period, including tying a season-high with nine 3-pointers.
Despite cooling off in the second period, McPherson extended its lead out to a game-high 67-33 following a Crawford put back at the 10:54 mark. MC’s lead would dip below 30 points only twice during the final 10 minutes of regulation, as the Bulldogs cruised to the 28-point win.
Overall, McPherson ended the game shooting 40.0 percent (28-of-70) from the floor, including a season-high 10 3-pointers. Defensively, the Bulldogs held Tabor to 24.2 percent (9-of-26) shooting, while forcing 15 Blue Jay turnovers. Additionally, McPherson held a 50-47 edge in rebounding.
Ryan Chippeaux was the lone Blue Jay in double figures with 13 points.
The Bulldogs return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 28, when they travel to Sterling College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Warrior Gymnasium.
