Sterling, Kan. - The McPherson Women’s five game win-streak came to a halt in Sterling Saturday night as the Warriors downed the Bulldogs 69-56.
Elice Frey (Riley, Kan.) and
Kt Porter (Wichita, Kan.) led the Bulldogs with 12 points apiece, while
Madison Chambers (Wellsville, Kan.) added another 10. Overall McPherson shot only 28.4 percent from the field for the game including 11-for-41 in the second half.
The Bulldogs came out strong to start trading baskets with the Warriors early taking the game’s first lead with a jumper by Chambers then another by
Taylor Puttergill (Tryon, Neb.)to put McPherson up 4-0. The Bulldogs would keep the lead until 12 minutes left in the first when the Warriors would take the lead with a shot by Megan Patrick in the paint.
The Warriors would extend their lead to nine in the last five minutes of the half with a 12-to-4 run taking the game to half 34-25. The Warriors continued to pressure adding another 8-to-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 42-27.
McPherson would fight to get the game back to within eight with 11 minutes left but couldn’t overcome the Warriors.
Katie McGrath led the Warriors with 21 points and added nine rebounds. Cassi Spleiss added another 15 including 2-of-3 from the three point line.
The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday as they try to bounce back as the travel to face the Saint Mary’s Spires. The Spires are 12-12 overall and have a 4-8 record in KCAC play. The match is set to start at 6:00p.m.
