Kansas City, Mo. – McPherson College volleyball played in a triangular on Saturday against Avila University and Missouri Valley College in Kansas City, Missouri and lost both matches bringing their overall record to 6-22; MC is 3-8 in the KCAC.
The Lady Bulldogs faced the Lady Vikings of MVC to start off the triangular. McPherson battled with Missouri Valley, losing by a combined nine points (21-25, 24-26, 23-25).
Aubrey Hoover (Pratt, Kan.) led MC in kills with 12 and also had six total blocks.
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) added seven kills and two blocks while
Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) tallied six kills and one block.
Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) had a solid setting game, posting 16 assists; she also had 10 digs in the match.
In their second competition of the day, MC took on the host school, Avila University. The Lady Bulldogs came out and surprised the Eagles taking the first game by 12 points at 25-13. AU returned the favor in the second game, winning 25-17. The third game was the closest of all four with Avila holding on and winning 25-23. The Lady Eagles ended the match with a 25-16 final game win.
Phelan stepped up big with 10 kills and two blocks to lead McPherson. Huppe posted nine kills while Hoover grabbed six to go along with her four blocks.
Both MC setters made it into double-digits in assists with Hoffman logging 14 and
Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) recording 16; Hoffman also had 15 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs return to the McPherson Sport Center for their next match which is scheduled to be held on October 16
th at 7:00 p.m. (CT) against the Bethel College Lady Threshers.
