McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College volleyball was clicking on all cylinders on Senior Night as they took down Bethel College in three-straight games. The sweep brings the Lady Bulldogs to 7-22 for the season and 4-8 in the conference, tied for sixth.
MC, starting three seniors, jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead over the Lady Threshers. BC fought back and took the lead at 12-11, after a 9-to-4 run. McPherson, not to be outdone, recaptured the lead a few points later and didn’t give it up the rest of the game, winning 25-23.
In game two, the Lady Bulldogs were out fast again, going up 4-0 and kept the four-point lead until they reached double-digits when Bethel made a charge. The Threshers just couldn’t keep up with the fire power of McPherson and were only able to make it within three points at 7-10. MC put the pedal to the floor again and extended their lead, taking game two 25-16.
The final game of the match was another McPherson controlled game until BC went on a 9-1 run, grabbing the lead and extending it to a 19-15 advantage. The Lady Bulldogs kept clawing and climbed back to take the lead for good at 21-20 and completed the sweep with a 25-21 win.
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) and Aubrey Hoover (Pratt, Kan.) really put the hammer down against Bethel, combining for 25 total kills on 50 attempts; Phelan posted 13 to lead the squad while Hoover was 12-of-27. Phoebe Barton (Little River, Kan.) was on the brink of hitting double-digit kills for the first time all season but came just short with nine.
Three Bulldogs made it into double figures for digs with senior Tiffany Rooker (Hillsboro, Kan.) leading the way with 17; setters Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) and senior Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) logged 10 and 13 digs, respectively. Hoffman added 17 assists to her digs while Phillips tallied 16.
Leavenworth, Kansas is where McPherson will play their next volleyball match. The Lady Bulldogs will take on the Lady Spires of the University of Saint Mary on October 18th at 7:00 p.m. (CT)
