Hillsboro, Kan. – Despite doubling up Tabor in shots on goal (13-to-6), corner kicks (6-to-3) and nearly total shots (19-to-11), McPherson College found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line.  The defeat drops the Bulldogs’ record to 7-5-1 and 2-3 in the KCAC, putting them in sixth place.

Soccer is a game of chances and on Wednesday, MC had multiple chances for themselves but was unable to convert on all but one.  The Bulldog offense did a great job of creating opportunities like they have in the past but was not able to find the back of the net against Tabor.  Credit needs to be given to the Blue Jays for capitalizing on their chances, especially forward Phillip Wahl who scored TC’s two goals on assists from Marian Saar.

The Blue Jays’ Wahl made a brilliant shot for his first goal of the match in the 22nd minute and put in another one eight minutes later giving Tabor a two-goal cushion heading into halftime.  McPherson came out determined in the second period and earned a penalty kick which was taken and scored by Ethan Gutierrez (Yuba City, Calif.) to bring MC within one goal with just over 20 minutes to play in the game.  Try as they might, the Bulldogs just could not punch in another goal, even though they continued to create chances for themselves.  In the final few minutes of the match, Tabor’s backline booted the ball away, making it nearly impossible for McPherson to get another shot, preserving TC’s 2-1 victory.

Sebastian Toro (Granada Hills, Calif.) was 100% in shots to shots on target, tallying four of each to lead the Bulldogs in both categories.  Both Heriberto Garcia (Dallas, Texas) and Rafael Fuentes (Los Angeles, Calif.) placed two balls on goal and had three total shots.

Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) saved the ball four times and allowed two goals in the 90 minute contest.

The Bulldogs will only get one day of rest and recovery before their next competition which is set for October 19th against Sterling College.  Game time is 3:00 p.m. (CT) in Sterling, Kan.
