Box Score

Sterling, Kan. – It may have taken two overtimes for Bulldog soccer to come up with a win on Friday but they got the job done, taking down the Warriors of Sterling College 3-2.  The win pushes McPherson to an 8-5-1 overall record, and moves them to .500 in the KCAC at 3-3.

Less than five minutes into the contest, MC found themselves down 0-1 and it would stay that way until senior Andrew Suits (Henderson, Nev.) found the ball laying at his feet at the front of the goal which he proceeded to punch into the back of the net, tying the game at one score apiece.

The score would stay that way until the opening minutes of the second period when MC’s Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) blasted a ball right past Sterling goalkeeper, pushing it to a 2-1 McPherson advantage.  The momentum of the game was heavily controlled by the Bulldogs throughout the rest of the half until a “garbage goal” was scored by the Warriors in the 83rd minute, pushing the game into its first overtime.

In OT, MC again controlled the tempo and pace of the game, garnering three shots to Sterling’s one but neither team was able to score the “golden goal.”  Just over four minutes into the final period of the game a foul by the Warriors just outside the box, gave McPherson’s Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) the chance he needed to end the game, which he did with a ball that swung past the SC defense and into the goal, giving the Bulldogs the 3-2 win.

McPherson shot the ball 16 times and put seven on target in the four period contest.  Nuthall logged six of those shots, with three of his earning the keeper’s attention.  Cortez put up four shots and had two on frame.

The goalie for McPherson, Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.), recorded two saves and two goals allowed in his 104 minutes of action.

A two-game home stand now awaits MC as they take on the Bethany College Swedes at 7:00 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday the 24th and then the Moundbuilders of McPherson College on Saturday the 27th.
