Box Score
Sterling, Kan. – McPherson College women’s soccer may have been out shot on Friday, but they still came out the victor, taking down the Lady Warriors 1-0 in a very tight contest. MC is now 5-7-2 for the year and 3-3 in conference.
It was another windy day for soccer but the Lady Bulldogs fought through both the wind and heavily favored Sterling College. In the opening half, SC seemed to control the tempo of game and took 11 shots but weren’t able to put any on frame.
The second period was a bit different as McPherson seemed to be the aggressor, taking it to the Lady Warriors. MC continuously harassed the back-line of Sterling until
Amy Stockton (Manhattan, Kan.) scored her secomd goal of the season coming off of a wonderful pass from defensive player
Samantha Peterson (Olathe, Kan.).
After that, SC could only hope to equalize but were unable to get the ball past McPherson’s senior goalkeeper
Molly Whitwell (Plano, Texas) who preserved the 1-0 victory while recording the shutout; Whitwell tallied six saves for the game.
Eight shots were taken by MC in their win, four in each period;
Cheyna Buchman (McPherson, Kan.) led the squad with three while Stockton recorded 2.
The Lady Bulldogs will host inner-county rival Bethany College on Wednesday, October 24. That game will begin at 5:30 p.m. (CT) at McPherson Stadium.
