Salina, Kan. – The McPherson College volleyball team traveled up to Salina, Kan., to take on the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan and was defeated 0-3. The loss moves MC to 2-6 in the conference, ranking them 9th; the Lady Bulldogs are 5-18 for the season.
MC and the Lady Coyotes traded points to start things off in the first game of the match. Once Kansas Wesleyan hit double-digits, however, KWU started earning two points for every one of McPherson’s, ending the game at 25-16 on a 12-6 run.
Game two was all Kansas Wesleyan as they opened things up on a 15-1 run. The Lady Bulldogs did string together three-straight points but by that time, KWU was already one-point away from victory. The Lady Coyotes took game two 25-8.
In the final game of the match, MC controlled the first few points and held a lead until the score was 8-8. At that time, Kansas Wesleyan shifted the game back to the two-for-one style that gave the Lady Coyotes the game one win. Game three’s result was no different with the scoreboard reading 25-16 again, giving KWU the overall victory.
The Lady Bulldogs were only able to grab 21 total kills in the match; Aubrey Hoover (Pratt, Kan.) and Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) led the team with five apiece.
Senior setter Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) was the only McPherson athlete to reach double figures in assists with 10. Fellow senior Tiffany Rooker (Hillsboro, Kan.) posted 20 digs to lead the squad.
MC won’t have long to linger about this loss as they must now prepare to host the Friends University Falcons who are third in the KCAC. That match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, October 4 in the McPherson Sport Center.
