Box Score

McPherson, Kan. – A five goal advantage doesn’t often happen when these two rivals face each other but a superb game plan by the Bulldogs gave McPherson that lead as they took it to Bethany College on Wednesday.  MC now owns the fifth place slot in the KCAC standings after the win brings them to 4-3 in the conference and 9-5-1 overall.

Sophomore Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) got the party started for McPherson with his lone goal of the match with just 12 minutes gone by in the game.  He was followed 25 minutes later when Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) blasted in a pass from Heriberto Garcia (Dallas, Texas) from distance, making it a 2-0 MC advantage heading into halftime.

Christian Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.), not wanting to be left out of the fun, tapped in his first goal of the night after an amazing cross by Andrew Suits (Henderson, Nev.) made it past two Bethany defenders just seconds into the second period.  Suits wasn’t done distributing the ball as he gave another great pass to Tito Ruiz (Weatherford, Texas) just over 10 minutes later which was scored.  The final goal was made by Rodriguez off of yet another ball from Suits, bringing the score to 5-0 in the 66th minute.

A great defensive effort was put forth by the Bulldogs who not only started three different players on the backline, but also put freshman Fernando Gonzalez (Dallas, Texas) in goal where he recorded the shutout and tallied three saves in his first career start.

Walsh shot the ball at the goal five times in the match, putting two on target and scoring the one goal.  Erik Ramos (Dallas, Texas), also getting his first start of the season, took three shots but wasn’t able to put any on goal.  Rodriguez was perfect on the night taking two shots which were both on target and went past the keeper for scores.  Ruiz also tallied a perfect night, shooting the ball once for a goal.

MC soccer will be back in action on Saturday the 27th as they host the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College at 7:30 p.m. (CT)
