Box Score

Ottawa, Kan. – The score may not show it, but McPherson men’s soccer scored two goals in their loss on Saturday to the Ottawa University Braves.  An own-goal by McPherson’s Ethan Gutierrez (Yuba City, Calif.) gave OU the two-point advantage they needed to control the contest, ultimately winning 3-1.  MC is now 5-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the KCAC.

Bulldog soccer had the misfortune of making two bad, costly passes, giving Ottawa a 2-0 lead after the first 22 minutes.  A ball played right to an OU forward by McPherson defender Nik Burkevics (Chatsworth, Calif.) gave the Braves their first goal only 12 minutes into the contest.  Nearly 10 minutes later, Gutierrez tried to head away an Ottawa cross attempt but knocked it into his own goal putting MC down 0-2.  Senior forward Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) helped the Bulldogs fight back with his fourth goal of the season, narrowing the gap to a manageable 1-2 deficit.  Just over 10 minutes into the second period, the Braves widened their lead to two goals with a header coming on a throw-in set piece.  Try as they might, McPherson couldn’t come back from that score line.

McPherson put up 15 shots in the game, six on target, and was led by junior transfer Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) with seven who had two of his on target.  Christian Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Walsh each posted two shots; Walsh had two on goal while Rodriguez had one.

Five shots were put on target by the Braves and two of them were saved by MC’s keeper Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.).

Bulldog soccer will have their next match on October 10th against the Friends University Falcons.  That competition will be held at 7:30 p.m. (CT) at McPherson Stadium.
