Box Score

McPherson, Kan. – A dominating performance from the Lady Bulldog basketball team gives them a 90-67 victory over the York College Panthers.  The win moves MC to .500 for the season at 4-4 and gives them some momentum as they head into their first conference matchup of the 2012-13 season.

The Lady Panthers scored the first five points of the game but a 9-2 run gave McPherson their first advantage and the Lady ‘Dogs stayed on top for the remainder of the contest.  York was able to keep it close for the middle part of the first period but a 16-0 run by MC left the Panthers in the dust; McPherson would push the lead to 20 points and headed into the locker room up 46-26.

Despite having the lead, the Bulldogs had a lower shooting percentage as they hit 43.6% of their shots while the Panthers drained 45.5.  Kaylee Cramer (Dighton, Kan.) highlighted MC’s squad, recording four points, four rebounds and four assists.  Mac’s bench was a major factor in the team’s lead, scoring 23 points between four players.  York’s bench netted 10 points and the whole team tallied 16 turnovers in the first half.

McPherson came out in the second period thinking they were going to run away with the game but were sorely mistaken as an aggressive Panther squad brought the game within 10 points just five minutes into the half.  The score would stay within 10 for the next eight minutes before the Lady Bulldogs regained their control and quickly extended the lead to 28 points with just two minutes remaining in regulation; MC kept the 20+ advantage, winning 90-67.

Once again, York shot the ball better than McPherson as the Lady Panthers hit on 47.1% of their shots whereas MC converted 40.5 percent on 15-of-37.  A 54.4 (6-of-11) percentage from beyond the arc from the Lady Bulldogs helped them extend their lead late in the second half.  YC went just 5-of-15 in the period from deep and finished the game shooting 33.3% from behind the three-point line.

MC ended the contest making 42.1 percent of their shots from the floor and was 9-of-21 from deep; Brittany Pittas (Chicago, Ill.) was responsible for six of those three balls.  An impressive performance on the offensive boards was shown by McPherson as they grabbed 22 balls off of the glass; Mac also recorded 28 defensive rebounds to help them lead the rebounding battle against York 50-33.

A 9-of-16 night for 22 points was recorded by Pittas who went 6-of-8 in the second half; she also tallied five rebounds in the contest.  Madison Chambers (Wellsville, Kan.) and Cami Engelbert (Beloit, Kan.) each totaled 10 points in the victory; both grabbed five rebounds as well.  Senior Cramer was a beast on the glass, rebounding 12 balls to go with her six points and six assists.

York’s leading scorer for the season, Sara Lincoln, bested her season average by putting in 7-of-16 from the field and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe for 18 points.  Right on her heals was forward Taylor Runyan who totaled 17 on her 6-of-10 shooting night.  Courtney Swope and Alexandra Payne both made it into double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

A trip up to Lindsborg, Kansas for the first KCAC game of the season is next for McPherson.  That contest is scheduled for November 29th with the tipoff set for 6:00 p.m. (CT)
