McPherson, Kan. – The first conference game of the 2012-13 season pits McPherson against inner-county rival Bethany College.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, November 29 in Lindsborg, Kan.

The contest will be broadcasted live in the McPherson area on 96.7 FM KBBE Mid-Kansas Radio and on the world wide web at Macbulldogs.com with Nick Gosnell on the call with Steve Sell providing the color commentary for the broadcast.  You can also watch the game via ihigh.com/macbulldogs or through the iHigh app.

MC will be flying high heading into the contest on Thursday as they blew away the York College Panthers this past Monday 90-67.  McPherson came out of the gate strong and dominated the majority of the first half and were up 46-26 heading into halftime despite having a lower shooting percentage than YC.

The Lady Panthers came out firing in the second half, draining shots and forcing turnovers.  York was able to bring the game to single digits but never got any closer than nine points.  After a couple of timeouts, McPherson got back under control and extended their lead to 20+ where it would stay for the rest of the game.  The 90-67 win gave the Lady Bulldogs their fourth win of the season, bringing them to 4-4.

A 9-of-16 night for 22 points was recorded by Brittany Pittas who went 6-of-8 in the second half; she also tallied five rebounds in the contest.  Madison Chambers and Cami Engelbert each totaled 10 points in the victory; both grabbed five rebounds as well.  Senior Kaylee Cramer was a beast on the glass, rebounding 12 balls to go with her six points and six assists.

Pittas is currently ranked second in the NAIA D-II in three-point field goals made per game with 3.5 and is fourth in total three balls made with 28.  She is averaging a seventh best in the NAIA 20.0 points per contest and is eighth in total scoring with her 160 points.

A home game against Tabor College awaits the Lady Bulldogs following their showdown with the Swedes.  TC will come to town on December 1st with the junior varsity to play at 1:00 p.m. (CT) and the varsity getting started at 5:00 p.m. in the Sport Center.

Scouting Bethany

After winning their first game of the season, the Lady Swedes have lost seven straight and are currently 1-7.  They most recently played Oklahoma Wesleyan for the second time in the past two weeks; BC’s 72-61 loss to the Eagles occurred on this past Monday.

OWU shot over 50% in their victory over Bethany from both the three-point line and from the rest of the floor.  The Lady Swedes did not shoot as well, only converting on 20-of-53 from the field and just 2-of-15 from distance.  Neither team turned the ball over an excessive amount of times as just 20 total turnovers were committed.  BC was outrebounded 24-34 in the loss

Three Bethany athletes made up the majority of the points for the team, scoring 40; Tanya Garner had 16 to lead the group while Nicole Felker and Tasha Wagoner each put in 12 points.  Six other Lady Swedes scored in the game, totaling 21 points.

BC is putting up 50.3 points a contest, last in the KCAC, while posting a 33.3 field goal percentage; they are making just 20% of their shots from beyond the three-point arc.  The Swedes’ -15.2 scoring margin is at the bottom of the conference.

The leading scorer for Bethany in this early part of the season is Garner who is averaging 12.25 points per game and is hitting 50% of her attempts; she also is the top stealer of the team with her 12 total steals.  Felker is grabbing 5.5 rebounds each time she hits the court and has accumulated 44 for the season.  Heather Eddings is second in the team in scoring with her seven points per game average; she is also recording 4.5 boards a contest.

The Lady Swedes will again be at home on Saturday, December 1 for their second KCAC game of the year; the Lady Threshers of Bethel College travel to Lindsborg for the 5:00 p.m. contest.
