McPherson, Kan. – The Bulldog soccer team took on the Swedes of Bethany for the second time in 10 days on Saturday, and for the second straight game, McPherson came out victorious. After the 4-1 win, MC will now move on to the semifinals of the KCAC tournament where the KWU Coyotes are waiting; that match will be on Wednesday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m. (CT)
Eight minutes into the first half,
Sebastian Toro (Granada Hills, Calif.) was tackled inside of the box which gave McPherson a penalty kick. Senior
Ethan Gutierrez (Yuba City, Calif.) took the PK for the Bulldogs and boomed it past the goal keeper for the first score of the match. Just a few minutes later,
Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) placed a ball into the net from Toro for MC’s second goal. Halftime came and with it, a 2-0 Bulldog lead.
Just two minutes out of the locker room, Bethany scored off of a corner kick to bring the score within one goal. MC’s
Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) put in a goal in the 62
nd minute off of an
Heriberto Garcia (Dallas, Texas) assist which gave McPherson a nice two-goal cushion.
Andrew Suits (Henderson, Nev.) scored the match’s final point with 10 minutes remaining on a nifty set of passes from Walsh and
Christian Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.).
Out of the 26 shots McPherson took, over half were on target as they placed 14 on goal. Nuthall led the team in both shots and balls on frame with five and three, respectively.
Fernando Gonzalez allowed his first goal in four games; he tallied two saves in the competition.
The winner of the semifinal match between McPherson and Kansas Wesleyan will play the winner of the Ottawa vs. Tabor match which is scheduled for November 7
th.
