Wichita, Kan. – A 3-0 (16-25, 13-25, 22-25) loss to Friends University in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament ends the 2012 campaign for Lady Bulldog volleyball. MC finishes the year 9-27 ending on a five-game skid.
The Lady Falcons came out firing in the first game of Tuesday’s match, getting up 8-2. Friends would keep that cushion for the remainder of the game as McPherson only was able to come within four points.
Game two started even better for Friends as they broke ahead 12-2 and then extended it to 16-4. The Lady Bulldogs got within 10 once at 18-9 after putting two points together but a four point run by the Lady Falcons ended that chance for MC.
The third and final game was the closest of all the games and was reminiscent of the two school’s last meeting. Friends got up 7-4 and the game looked like it was going to be another quick win for the Lady Falcons. MC climbed back, taking a point here and a point there until they tied the game at 22-22. After that rally, the Lady Bulldogs didn’t have enough steam to take the lead and a 3-0 Falcon run closed out the match, advancing Friends into the semifinals of the KCAC tournament.
No McPherson athlete made it into double digits in total points in their loss;
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) was the closest with nine points which came on her nine kills. KCAC second teamer
Aubrey Hoover (Pratt, Kan.) ended the match with seven kills, one solo and one assisted block.
Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) totaled 15 assists while
Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) recorded 10.
Libero
Tiffany Rooker (Hillsboro, Kan.) was all over the court, earning 23 of the team’s 58 total digs.
MC will graduate five seniors including their libero and setter; head coach Susan Barton will now look to fill those shoes with new recruits and help the team prepare for the 2013 season.
