McPherson Kan.
– Coming off of their recent 67-86 loss to Friends University Thursday night, the Bulldogs look to stay above the .500 Win-Loss mark against the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan.  That game is set for Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. (CT) in Salina.

The game will be shown live on the KCAC Broadcast Network and at Macbulldogs.com. The contest will also be broadcasted live in the McPherson area on 96.7 FM KBBE MidKansas Radio and at Macbulldogs.com with Nick Gosnell on the call.

McPherson is in a two-game slump after dropping games against Southwestern and Friends, the top two teams in the KCAC.  They now travel to 10-5 in conference, 15-11 overall, Kansas Wesleyan who is fourth in the KCAC.  The two home losses knocks the Bulldogs down to sixth in the conference with an 8-7 record, they’re 13-12 overall.

MC’s freshman guard Ali Brewster (Milton, Kan.) doubled her previous career best seven points to 14 in the game against Friends.  She also tied her career best rebounds with six. Elice Frey (Riley, Kan.) added two blocks to her already phenomenal 54 season total, which ranks her eighth in the NAIA Division II, she also shot 6-of-13 for 13 points.

The Lady Bulldogs had a hard time stopping the fast-paced offense of Friends on Thursday.  The defense of McPherson gave up 86 points on 32-of-66 shooting from the Falcons.  Friends shot 48.5 percent from the field and were also 9-of-20 from three-point land.  In the past two games, McPherson has allowed 79 and 86 points for an average that is 14 points above their season average of 68 points per game.  Granted, the contests were against two of the three top-scoring offenses in the KCAC, Southwestern who is averaging 75.6 and Friends, averaging 67.6 points per game. MC’s defense will now look to stop the 63.7 average score of Kansas Wesleyan.

The Coyotes are coming into the KCAC matchup off of an exciting victory against the former top-seeded Southwestern College which KWU defeated 57-51.  Kansas Wesleyan is at the end of a three-game home stand where they have started a two-game winning streak, winning their last two games by a combined score of eight points.

Five days after the showdown in Salina with the Coyotes, McPherson will again be on the road as they travel to play Ottawa University Thursday, Feb. 16th at 6 p.m. (CT)

Scouting Kansas Wesleyan

Kansas Wesleyan will be coming into the matchup with a lot of confidence having dethroned the score-heavy Southwestern College Moundbuilders.  The Coyotes were able to keep the usually high-scoring Builders at bay with tough defense and excellent rebounding.  The 51 points scored by SWC was the lowest total they’ve had in any of their KCAC games this year.

Southwestern was held to a 34.5 percentage from the field and were only able to make six of their 23 three-point attempts. That average from behind the three is nearly 10 percent below the Builder’s average of 33 percent.  KWU also kept the KCAC’s top-scorer, Brett Bates, to 14 points after she netted 24 in her previous two contests.

Offensively, Kansas Wesleyan was led by 5-5 guard Shelby Babcock who had 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting.  Coming off the bench, Taylor Ebert scored a season-best 10 points and had seven rebounds.  Forward Alecia Smith was one point from a double-double, grabbing 11 boards and nine points.

For the season, KWU sits in the middle of the KCAC in most offensive and defensive categories, ranking sixth in seals (10.2), assists (11.76) and offensive rebounds (37.5) per game.  The Coyotes are third in scoring defense, giving up 58.8 points per game and second in defensive rebounds, averaging 33.6 a game.  That defensive rebounding average puts them tenth in the NAIA Division II and KWU’s scoring defense ranks 17th.

After the contest against McPherson, Kansas Wesleyan will be on the road, heading to Wichita for a Thursday night matchup against Friends University on Feb. 16th at 6 p.m. (CT)
