Men’s Basketball can’t find shot, falling 50-73 to Saint Mary Spires

Leavenworth, Kan. – The McPherson Men’s Basketball team had their seven-game win streak snapped Thursday night as the Saint Mary Spires came out strong from the start overtaking the Bulldogs 50-73.
 
The loss drops McPherson’s overall record to 22-3 overall and 11-2 while the Spires improve to 18-4 overall and 9-4 in KCAC play.
 
McPherson couldn’t find their stride shooting just 26.6 percent for the game. Chris Crawford (McPherson, Kan.) led the Bulldogs with 22 points shooting 7-of-11 from the field, while Adam Bruner (McPherson, Kan.) added another ten off the bench. Jordan Crawford (McPherson, Kan.) brought down 13 rebounds to lead all players in the contest.
 
The Spires came out on fire, going on a 17-to-6 run in the first eight minutes of the game resulting in their largest lead of the first half at 11. The Bulldogs would battle back with a 14-to-5 run, bringing the game within two, 20-22. However, with another run spurred by Saint Mary’s Jordan Wilcox, the spires stretched their lead to 9, going into the break 27-36.
 
The Spires again came out fast in the second half going on a 15-to-2 run in the first three minutes putting the Bulldogs in a 22 point deficit, 29-51. The Bulldogs would get the game within 14 at 45-59 after a C. Crawford three, but it would be the closest they’d come. Saint Mary would finish on one more long run downing the Bulldogs 50-73.
 
The Spires had four players in double digits including JEB Greenberg who lead the Spires with 18. The Spires would also out rebound McPherson 44 to 38.
 
The Bulldogs hope to bounce back this weekend where they will host Southwestern at the McPherson Sport Center at 7:00 p.m. Southwestern boast a 19-5 overall and 9-4 in KCAC play
