Love Gets Two Complete Game Victories Over Sterling

McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College softball completed their second-straight two-game sweep on Tuesday, taking down Sterling College 10-1 and 4-0.  The victories put the Lady Bulldogs at 15-21 in the regular season and 9-7 in the KCAC.

Game One: McPherson 10 – Sterling 1

In the opening game of the series, MC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning, beginning with a Katie Logan (Clay Center, Kan.) homerun.  In the second, the Lady Bulldogs continued to pile it on, grabbing three more runs, all of which came with two outs.  SC put their lone run on the board in the third but was unable to keep up with the bats of McPherson.  Four more runs were added by MC in the fourth inning to force the run rule after the top of the fifth.

Nine hits were recorded by McPherson in game one, three off of the bat of Logan and two coming from second baseman Sadie Green (Hutchinson, Kan.).  Four other Bulldogs put positive contact on the ball.

A complete game win was awarded to Allison Love (Tulsa, Okla.) who struck out three and only allowed two hits in her five innings.  Al. Love’s one earned run given up keeps her in sixth place in ERA in the KCAC at 2.82.

The two Lady Warriors who earned a hit in the first game were LaChelle Bell and Alex Peters; both hits were singles and came in the third inning.

Adrianna Ballor was the starting pitcher for Sterling and lasted two innings, surrendering five runs, one earned, one walk and nine hits.   Carleigh Cupp finished out the game for SC, coming in at the top of the third.  She gave up five runs, three earned, four hits and one walk in her two innings pitched.

Game Two: McPherson 4 – Sterling 0

Four runs off of five hits were scored by the Lady Bulldogs in the opening inning of game two.  No more players crossed the plate the rest of the seven inning contest for either team.

Amanda (Grace) Baxter (Pueblo, Colo.) and Taylor Medler (Collinsville, Texas) each tallied two hits for MC; Baxter’s brought in one run while Medler’s scored two.  Four others had one hit in the game two victory. 

A second complete game and win were recorded by Al. Love who struck out four and only gave up three hits in her shutout.  She has now thrown 14 CGs, two shutouts and is 9-9 this season.

Three different Warriors grabbed a hit in their second outing of the day, all of which were singles.

Courtney Bell put in a complete game for Sterling.  After settling down from her four run, five hit first inning, she allowed zero runs, three hits and struck two batters out in the remaining six innings.

One more two-game series is left for the Lady Bulldogs in the 2012 regular season.  Those games will be played at Wall Park in McPherson, Kan., on Saturday, April 28, starting at 1 p.m. (CT).  The double-header with Friends University will be Senior Night for McPherson.
