Hillsboro, Kan. – The Lady Bulldog softball team traveled to Hillsboro, Kansas to take on the Tabor College Blue Jays for a Thursday evening double-header on April 5. The ‘Dogs and Jays split the series 1-1 as McPherson grabbed game one 7-3, and Tabor won the second 9-0.
Game One: McPherson 7 – Tabor 3

TC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning thanks to a two-run homerun coming off the bat of Taylor Funk. The score remained the same until the fifth when an RBI double by McPherson’s Katie Logan brought around Brittany Cole to make it a 2-1 Blue Jay advantage. In the sixth inning, McPherson really hammered it on. After a Kelly Custer walk brought in a run, the bases remained juiced and senior Logan took advantage, hitting a grand slam over the right field fence, making it 6-2 Bulldogs. Each team logged one run in the seventh to make the final 7-3 McPherson.
Logan and Cole each had two hits to lead the way for the Lady Bulldogs; five others recorded one hit.
Junior Allison Love pitched another complete game for McPherson, tallying three strikeouts, nine groundouts and two fly outs. She gave up three earned runs off of eight hits.
The Blue Jays were led from the plate by Taylor Lowry and Funk, each logging two hits. Four other TC players had one hit to make up the team’s eight.
Three pitchers were used in the game for Tabor. Karen Harris started the game and lasted five and a third innings, surrendering six earned runs, seven hits and five walks. Kyleen Condon came in relief in the fifth inning, allowing one earned run, two hits and three walks. Courtney Capps replaced Condon after one and a third innings to close out the game for TC, striking out the only batter she faced.
Game Two: McPherson 0 – Tabor 9

Tabor, showing that they meant business in the second game, scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. That proved to be plenty as the Lady Bulldogs could only muster that many hits in game 2. The Lady Jays added six more runs in the fourth to make sure they built a lead that McPherson couldn’t surpass.
MC’s three hits came off the bats of Ariel McGee, Janie Gunther and Ashley Love.
Cole received the starting job for McPherson in game two. She allowed six earned runs off of four hits and three walks in her three and a third innings pitched. Cole tallied two strikeouts, four groundouts and one fly out before being relieved by Kaci Nichols who closed out the game. Nichols surrendered three earned runs, three hits and one walk.
Lowry and Amanda Howe each put the ball into play twice to lead the Blue Jays; three others recorded one hit apiece.
Tracie Kithcart tallied the complete game for TC, giving up no runs, no walks and only three hits. She struck out two of the 14 batters she faced.
