Sioux City, Iowa – Bulldog soccer is now 3-0 after shutting out two GPAC opponents over the weekend. MC played Briar Cliff University on Saturday the 8th and Morningside College on Sunday the 9th, winning 3-0 and 2-0 respectively.
In game one of their weekend, the Bulldogs took down the BCU Chargers 3-0 in what was an offense filled game for McPherson. In the 38th minute, MC’s Heriberto Garcia (Dallas, Texas) recorded what turned into the game-winning goal. Four minutes later, newcomer Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) put one in the back of the net to give the Bulldogs some cushion. Coming off of the bench, Sebastian Toro (Granada Hills, Calif.) scored his first goal of the season 24 minutes into the second half, taking all hope away from Briar Cliff.
McPherson recorded 11 shots on goal out of their 18 total.
Nuthall heaved six balls towards the goal, three needed the attention of the keeper. Garcia had three shots, two on goal.
KCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) logged the shutout, making three saves. The Bulldog defense held BCU to five total shots in the 90 minute match.
Sunday’s contest was all McPherson as they handled the Mustangs of Morningside. 26 minutes into the game, Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) placed a ball in the goal to give the Bulldogs the lead and Nuthall’s second goal of the weekend left no doubt as to who the best team on the field was.
MC shot the ball 13 times, 6 on target. Leading the Bulldogs in shot attempts were Cortez and Nuthall who each put up three; all of Nuthall’s were on target while Cortez posted two shots on goal.
Parrott tallied five saves in his second shutout of the weekend.
MC will be back on the pitch on September 13th for the 6th Annual SOCR (Support Ongoing Cancer Research) benefit game which will be played against cross-town rival Central Christian College. The competition will be the home opener and is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Women’s soccer will play before the men at 5 p.m. (CT)
