McPherson, Kan. – In some of the closest matches of their season, McPherson volleyball dropped their home opener to the Bethany College Swedes 1-3 (25-22, 22-25, 15-25, 23-24) on Tuesday.
This puts MC’s record at 1-9 overall, 0-2 in the KCAC while Bethany stays undefeated in conference at 2-0 and is 3-4 for the season.
The match started off fast with both teams ready to prove they were the best team on the court. When MC took the first game, Bethany roared back and took the second by the same score. The Swedes took the momentum gained in game two into the third game, holding MC to only 15 points. In what turned out to be the final set, both teams put together streaks with the final one coming from McPherson but a few errors cost them the game, giving BC the victory.
Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was, once again, freshman Aubrey Hoover (Pratt, Kan.) who put down 13 kills to go along with her three block assists; she posted an over 50% attacking percentage for the match (55%).
Senior Natalie Boss (Waterville, Kan.) gave MC some good minutes with her four kills and four total blocks, one solo and three assisted. Boss also led the team in attack attempts with 30.
Junior transfer Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) recorded 20 assists for the match while starting setter Hannah Hoffman (Bendena, Kan.) tallied 11.
Lady Bulldog Volleyball travels to North Newton for their next match, taking on the 7-3 Bethel Threshers on September 13th. Junior varsity will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity match will follow at 7 p.m. (CT)
