McPherson, Kan. – McPherson’s men’s soccer team squeaked by the Central Christian Tigers on Thursday, winning 2-1 in the 6th annual Support Ongoing Cancer Research (SOCR) game.  MC improves to 4-0 for the season.
In a game that was heavily played on Central’s side of the field and beautifully managed by McPherson for the first 70 minutes, MC gave up on goal with less than four minutes remaining and could have given up another.  Kasey Sidor’s goal from 50 yards out in the 86th minute put McPherson on their heels, giving all the momentum to CCC who narrowly missed forcing an overtime period despite playing the last 30 minutes with 10 men.
Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they were able to hang on and continue their undefeated season.  The lone goal allowed breaks junior goalkeeper Taylor Parrott's (Wichita, Kan.) shutout streak; Parrott grabbed five other balls kicked his way.
Less than ten minutes into the contest, Brooks Walsh (Valencia, Calif.) poked the ball past CCC’s keeper to give McPherson the 1-0 lead.  In the 67th minute, Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) faked out the defense to make it a 2-0 MC advantage.
As a team, MC had 22 shots, nine on target, in the 90 minute contest.
The Bulldogs next game will come on September 19th when the travel up to Baldwin City, Kan., to take on the Wildcats of Baker University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CT)
