Men's Soccer | 9/19/2012 10:36:00 PM

Box Score Baldwin City, Kan. – The undefeated season is over for Bulldog soccer after suffering a defeat to the runner up of last year's National Championship the Baker University Wildcats 1-3 in a physical and sloppy match.  McPherson moves to 4-1 for the season.

Baker utilized their corners and long throw-ins, as well as their size advantage, to gain a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.  McPherson’s Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) netted a ball in the 70th minute off of a pass from Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) to narrow the margin.  A second yellow card sent senior defender Michael Phillips (Spring Branch, Texas) to the bench and the Wildcats took that opportunity to score the game’s final goal with under eight minutes to go against a three-man defensive front.

The Bulldogs tallied three shots on goal and had seven shots overall, compared to the 19 total shots and 10 on target of Baker.  Nuthall, Cortez and Heriberto Garcia (Dallas, Texas) were the three players to shoot the ball between the posts.

Two-time KCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) gave up three goals and recorded seven saves in the match.

Five fouls were called on McPherson, along with three yellow cards.  Baker garnered nine fouls and one yellow card.

The next matchup for McPherson men’s soccer is No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene University.  The Pioneers will travel to McPherson, Kansas for the 7:30 p.m. (CT) kickoff on September 22nd.
