McPherson, Kan. – Bulldog soccer came out on Saturday and proved that they belong amongst the NAIA elite after outplaying No. 8 MidAmerica Nazarene for 90 minutes, tying 1-1.  McPherson is now 4-1-1 for the year.

After a scoreless first half, McPherson’s Ricardo Tavarez (Amarillo, Texas) came off the bench and scored less than two minutes into the second period.  MC looked to have the game locked up as their defense dealt with every offensive bombardment that the Pioneers threw at them.  However, with time winding down, a corner kick was sent in by MNU and Alvaro Beltran found it after a couple of ricochets and slammed it into the back of the net for a controversial goal with no time remaining.  The Bulldogs held MANU to one shot on target until that goal in the 89th minute.

Overtime was a different story than regulation as MidAmerica came out determined not to allow McPherson get any shots on goal in overtime; MC only had one shot attempt in the two overtime periods compared to MANU’s eight.  Twenty minutes of OT went by without any goals and as it was not a post-season match, the game ended in a tie.

McPherson recorded 17 shots, six on goal in the double-overtime contest.  Both Sebastian Toro (Granada Hills, Calif.) and Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) tallied two shots on target while Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) led the team in shots taken with six.

Goalie Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) logged all 110 minutes of that match, making four saves and allowing the one lone goal.

McPherson soccer remains at home for their next competition which comes on September 26th against Manhattan Christian College.  That match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (CT) at McPherson Stadium.
