McPherson, Kan. – Home court advantage is a foreign term to the McPherson volleyball team as the squad has started the season 0-3 with their latest loss coming to the KCAC’s second place Sterling College 0-3 (20-25, 18-25, 16-25).
The Lady Bulldogs got out to a fast 3-0 start in game one of the match and traded points back and forth until Sterling burst ahead to a 14-21 point lead. MC tried to come back, stringing three points together but ended the game on the wrong side of a 20-25 score.
In the second game, it was the Warriors that got up 3-0 but unlike McPherson, they kept that cushion the entire game, leading by as many as eight points. SC held off a last-ditch effort of the Lady Bulldogs, taking them down 25-18.
Sterling scored the first six points of the final game. McPherson came back from a 1-10 deficit to get within four points at 10-14. The Lady Warriors scored the next eight points, going up 22-10. MC, not giving in, strung together six consecutive points before Sterling finished the match with a 3-0 run, winning the final game 25-16.
Aubrey Hoover (Pratt, Kan.), who has 164 kills on the year, was the only Lady Bulldog to hit double-digits in kills with 10. Natalie Boss (Waterville, Kan.) and Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) each tallied five kills.
MC won’t get long to linger on their loss as they travel to Winfield, Kan., to take on the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College on Thursday, September 27th for a 7:30 p.m. (CT) showdown. The Lady Bulldogs return home for a triangular on September 29th against Ottawa University and Southwestern Christian University.
