Hastings, Neb. – While playing some of the NAIA elite, the Lady Bulldog volleyball squad went 0-4 in the Hastings College Classic; MC was only able to grab one game out of the 13 that they played over the weekend putting their record at 1-8.
McPherson opened up the weekend tournament against the host school, Hastings College (Neb.). Against the 33rd ranked team in the Nation, the Lady Bulldogs went down in three games (14-25, 13-25, 19-25).
Senior outside hitter Natalie Boss led the team in points (7.2) with six kills, one solo and one assisted block; her attacking percentage was 29.4.
The second match for MC was played against Concordia University (Neb.) and was stretched out to four games thanks to a game three victory for the ‘Dogs. However, CU came back in the fourth game to win 3-1 (19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 22-25).
Aubrey Hoover, freshman frontline player, was the standout athlete with her 12.6 points coming from 12 kills and three assisted blocks; she had four attacking errors to go with her kills for a 40% hitting percentage.
In match one of the second day, McPherson took on Dordt College (Iowa) and went down in three straight games, pushing for the first and third but coming up short (23-25, 15-26, 20-25).
Hoover was again the leading point getter with nine on one solo block and eight kills. She was closely followed by sophomore Tory Phelan who had 7.2 points on seven kills and two assisted blocks.
The final contest of the Classic for McPherson paired them with No. 11 Doane College (Neb.). This match was all Doane in the first game but MC rallied and pushed the second but in the end, DC came out with the 3-0 victory (6-25, 22-25, 14-25).
10 points were scored by Hoover on her eight kills and two solo blocks; she hit had a hitting percentage of 43.8 for that match and 27.9 for the tournament, 31 kills, 12 attacking errors out of 68 attempts.
McPherson volleyball is back in action on September 11th for their 2012 home opener against inner-county rival Bethany College. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT) with the junior varsity playing at 5:30 p.m.
