In their most recent game, MC struggled with scoring in the first few minutes, getting down early to the Swedes of Bethany College; an 8-0 run by the Bulldogs quickly rectified their deficit. A back-and-forth battle, filled with plenty of missed shots, ensued for the remainder of the half sending the clubs into their locker rooms with the score tied at 19-19.

Mac stayed out front for the starting part of the second period but got leap-frogged by Bethany around the 15 minute mark.  The Lady Bulldogs bounced right back and took the lead for good with 10:50 to go.  The score stayed in single figures for most of the final 10 minutes but a few big baskets by MC down the stretch pulled them in front by 10 point which is how the game finished, 56-46.

McPherson ended the contest scoring on 18-of-55 field goals; they had a rough 17.6 three point percentage as only 3-of-17 found the bottom of the net.  The Bulldogs improved their season free throw percentage as they bucketed 17-of-21 from the stripe.  Bethany converted on 16-of-50 from the floor including two three-point baskets; 66.7 percent of their 18 shots from the charity stripe made their way through the bucket.  MC outrebounded the Swedes 30-to-28 and pulled down 11 offensive boards.  Eight steals were tallied by Mac as they forced 14 Bethany turnovers.  The Lady Bulldogs got a lot of help from their bench as the non-starters scored 26 of the team’s 56 points.

Tayler Puttergill had a near double-double as she scored 19 points on 6-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from the stripe; she also tallied a team-high nine rebounds.  Eisenhour and Bailey Brown nearly made it to double digits as they scored nine and eight, respectively; Eisenhour brought down seven rebounds while Brown led the team in assists with three.

The Lady Braves travel to the McPherson Sport Center on January 26th for the Lady ‘Dogs’ next competition.  The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. (CT)

Scouting Tabor

The Blue Jays are 13-7 this season and 9-1 against conference opponents.  They have won five of their last six and 11 of their previous 13 games dating back to November.  Tabor traveled to Sterling, Kansas to take on the Lady Warriors this past Saturday and ran away with an 84-56 victory.

Nearly half of Tabor’s shot attempts went through the net against SC as they converted on 31-of-64 from the field; they made 11-of-22 from deep and 11-of-13 from the stripe.  Sterling had a decent shooting night, making 23-of-58 but is not a three-point shooting team which made it difficult for them to climb back from a first half deficit; they made 3-of-14 from behind the arc and just 7-of-15 from the free throw line.  The two teams split the 74 total rebounds right down the middle; SC led in the offensive category, grabbing 15 to Tabor’s 12 offensive boards.  20 turnovers really hurt Sterling’s chances down the stretch; TC threw the ball away 15 times in the win.

Four of the five Lady Jay starters made it over the 10-point hump.  They were led by Nikki Lewis who scored 17 on 5-of-8 shooting with three makes from long range and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe; she also tallied 10 assists for her first double-double of the season.  Katlyn Mary was one point behind after her 6-of-10 night from the floor netted 16 points.  Janelle Rust came in third with 14 points after making 5-of-13 field goals and 4-of-5 free throws; she pulled down 10 rebounds, leading the team and grabbing her fourth double-double.  Molly Moran was the final Tabor player to reach double figures as she scored 13 points.

The Lady Blue Jays are scoring a KCAC second best 67 points a contest and have a positive scoring margin of nearly six points; they make 42.7% of their field goal attempts.  5.8 three-point makes are averaged by TC as they convert 31.2% of the time from deep.  The team has shot 317 free throws this season and cashed in on 70.4 percent of them, leading the conference.  18 turnovers, 12.8 assists and 8.4 steals are averaged by Tabor each time they make their way to the court.

Rust leads the KCAC in scoring as she totals 16 points a game while making 47.8 percent of her field goals; she also leads her team in rebounds grabbed per game at 7.4.  Lewis is next on the team in scoring with her 10.7 points per contest and leads the Jays in assists (121), steals (48) and minutes played (660).  Lewis is ranked third in the NAIA D-II in assists per game (6.05), fourth in total assists (121), and 14th in assist/turnover ratio (2.086).  Mary is TC’s top free throw shooter as she’s made 80.8 percent of her attempts from the stripe this season; she averages 8.6 points an outing.

Tabor will go to Lindsborg, Kansas to compete against Bethany College on January 26th.
