McPherson, Kan. – For the fifth time this season and fourth in a row, McPherson football saw another tally in the loss column of their record; Saturday's was a 29-14 defeat to No. 11 Tabor College. MC is 3-5 on the year and 2-4 against KCAC opponents.
The first drive netted points for the Blue Jays as they traveled 38 yards on eight plays to kick in 34-yard field goal. On the ensuing kickoff, a mishandled ball by McPherson turned into a safety for Tabor, putting the Jays ahead 5-0 just a few minutes into the contest.
McPherson's next few drives gained a total of 26 yards, leaving the window open for TC to increase their advantage which they did, going up 19-0. The Bulldogs were able to get a drive together with just over five minutes left in the half, driving 81 yards, ending in a seven-yard burst from
Scott Thibodeaux (Tonopah, Nev.) into the end zone. Mac trailed Tabor 19-7 heading into the locker room.
In the opening minutes of the third quarter, MC's fortunes seemed to be changing as
Phillip Wilson (Long Beach, Calif.) intercepted the Blue Jays at the own two-yard line. However, two plays later and TC scored on their second pick-six of the contest, bringing their lead to 26-7.
The Bulldog defense continued to fight, earning a defensive touchdown of their own as
Tyler Bruton (McPherson, Kan.) returned a fumble for 78 yards, pulling Mac within 12.
A lack of offense continued to hurt MC as they were only able to move the ball 47 yards for the final period. The Nationally ranked Blue Jays hit one more field goal to claim their 29-14 win.
For an offense that produced 101 total yards, Thibodeaux lead the rushing attack for McPherson, totaling 32 on nine carries with the Bulldogs' lone offensive touchdown.
Jordan Hoffman (McCordsville, Ind.) threw for 100 yards on a 12-of-22 day; he had two interceptions in the loss.
Michael Ramos (Sachse, Texas) pulled down four passes for 17 yards while
Jon White (Aurora, Colo.) led the team in receiving yards with 38 on his two grabs.
McPherson's defense surrendered 395 yards with 260 coming on the ground.
Trenton Forrester (Salina, Kan.) was around the ball all game, recording 15 tackles including eight solo stops; he also had one interception which he returned for 14 yards.
Trea Lott (Sterling, Kan.) added 12 tackles from his safety spot while
Dominique Henderson (Wichita, Kan.) posted 11 with one for a loss.
The Bulldogs will have their Senior Day next weekend, November 2
nd as they face No. 21 Sterling College; kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (CT) at McPherson Stadium.
