McPherson, Kan. – It's officially a streak as the women's soccer team at McPherson College won their third-straight match. The Lady Bulldogs took down Sterling College 1-0, giving them sole ownership of fourth place in the conference with just two matches to play.
Despite getting outshot in the first half 8-to-2, McPherson went toe-to-toe with the Sterling Warriors, taking a 0-0 tie into halftime.
The opening minutes of period number two were controlled by SC but one quick pass by the Lady 'Dogs and freshman Cydney Lewis (Ottawa, Kan.) had a 1v1 with the Sterling keeper. After the first shot was deflected by the goalie, Lewis blasted the rebound to the back of the net for what ended up being the game-winning goal.
Sterling continued to fire at McPherson's goal but couldn't seem to put one on target; they took 10 attempts and only had one on goal. Mac's defense held off each attack and preserved the 1-0 victory.
MC took four total shots in the game with two being on target and one going in for the goal. Lewis recorded both shots on frame with her one score. Birthday girl Gabriela Navarro (Wichita, Kan.) and Amy Stockton (Manhattan, Kan.) each put one towards the goal.
Despite always being under duress, goalkeeper Caitlyn Blagrave only made two saves in her shutout victory.
After a week of rest, Mac will travel to Winfield, Kansas to play the 6-9 (3-4) Southwestern College Moundbuilders; start time is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT)
