McPherson, Kan. – It was a McPherson controlled match in the county-rivalry competition between MC and the Bethany College Swedes. The Lady 'Dogs took sets one and two by a combined score of 50-31 and the final, 25-22; Mac improves to 17-16 for the year and 7-8 in conference with three matches to play in the regular season.
The Bulldog made quick work of the Lady Swedes in the first two sets, using their agility to give them the edge; they won game one 25-16 and the second 25-15. In the final set of the match, Bethany gave MC a run for their money as they posted 22 points but it was not enough to steal one from the 'Dogs as Mac won 25-22.
Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) was a beast at the net, logging 14 kills on 26 attempts for a 42.3 hitting percentage from her middle position. Freshman outside hitter
Taylor Johnson (Valley Center, Kan.) ended the match with 13 kills and 11 digs, second on the team in both categories.
Setter
Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) closed out the contest with 29 assists, a team-high 15 digs and one kill.
MC still ranks second in the NAIA in digs per set with 19.96 and fifth in total digs at 2235.
With the victory, McPherson is fifth in the conference standings.
The Lady 'Dogs are back on the road on Saturday, November 2 as they take on Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas; start time for varsity is set for 7:00 p.m. (CT)
