Box Score

McPherson, Kan. – It was a night of scoring for McPherson's women's basketball team as they tallied 80 points in an 80-59 win over Central Christian College.  The victory snaps a five-game losing streak by the Lady Bulldogs, moving them to 2-5 on the year.

It was a very, very low scoring start to the game with neither team reaching 10 points until nearly eight minutes had gone by; with the lack of offense, the game was close for entire first period with the largest lead by either squad being five.  As the halftime buzzer sounded, the east-side McPherson team was ahead 29-27.

It was a three-ball extravaganza in the opening period with 41 total three pointers taken by the two clubs.  Mac only hit 4-of-23 with four more field goals falling as well as 9-of-12 free throws.  CCC scored on 2-of-14 from downtown and 8-of-15 from the rest of the floor; they converted on 5-of-7 from the stripe.  After the first 20 minutes, MC had already recorded 32 rebounds with 14 offensive boards.

In the second half, the Lady 'Dogs came to play, getting ahead by 10+ in less than five minutes; they kept on the accelerator and increased their advantage to 18 by the midway point of the half, using a 22-to-6 run to drive the surge.  The Tigers attempted to battle back but MC wasn't having it, moving their lead to over 20 a few minutes later.  Mac's score margin stayed above 20 for the final minutes, giving the Bulldog a much needed 80-59 win.

After shooting 22.9% in the opening half, McPherson doubled their effort and cashed in on 15-of-32 for a 46.9 field goal percentage in the second period; they went 5-of-11 from deep and 16-of-20 from the charity stripe.  Central Christian shot well from the two-point area, hitting 8-of-18 but continued to miss from range, making 3-of-13; they shot less than 50 percent from the foul line, going 7-of-15.

When it was all said and done, the Lady Bulldogs posted a 34.3% conversion rate from the floor with 23-of-67 shots falling.  They scored on 26.5 percent of their three balls and made 78.1% of their 32 free throws.  Taking advantage of the shooting struggles of CCC, McPherson totaled a staggering 54 rebounds with 21 off the offensive glass; they recorded 21 second-chance points.  17 assists and just 13 turnovers, a season-low, along with 11 steals were tallied by the 'Dogs.  Over half of the team's 80 points were scored by bench players.

Chandler Short (Edgewood, Texas) has come on strong as of late for MC, tonight she entered off the bench to log 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting with 3-of-6 three pointers and 5-of-6 free throws; she also netted five steals.  Bailey Brown (Glen Elder, Kan.) recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and also had a team leading five assists; she went just 3-of-11 from the floor, 2-of-8 from behind the arc, but made 10-of-14 from the line.  Aubrey Barton (Pratt, Kan.) and Sunny Smart (Coffeeville, Okla.) each broke the 10-point mark as they scored 14 and 13, respectively; Smart went 3-of-9 from deep and 2-of-3 from inside the arc while Barton tallied a team second best eight rebounds.

The McPherson College Classic is next on the docket for the Lady 'Dogs.  The team will play host to AIB College of Business on Friday, November 22 at 8:00 p.m. (CT) and Northern New Mexico College on the 23rd at 4:00
