McPherson, Kan. – Following their 1-0 victory over Southwestern, MC has 18 KCAC points for the season. If they win their final game, they'll have 21 which may be enough to win the KCAC Regular Season Championship. If conference-leading 6-0-2 Kansas Wesleyan stumbles against USM, the 'Dogs could leap-frog the Coyotes to take the No. 1 seed of the league tournament.
On Saturday, MC shelled the Southwestern goalie from start to finish as they put 13 shots on frame. The sole ball to make it through was shot in by Octavio Villa (Desoto, Kan.) in the 26th minute. Several missed opportunities were recorded by the Bulldogs as shots went wide and flew off the posts and crossbar.
"This is a game we controlled again from start to finish," said head men's soccer coach Doug Quint. "We were creative in possession but just need to be more composed in front of the frame."
A gap of 20 sits between McPherson and SWC when it comes to total shots in the 90-minute competition; the 'Dogs had 28. Oscar Cortez (Dallas, Texas) pelted a team-high seven at the goal with three finding the frame but not making it in. Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) took six shots and had four saved by Southwestern's keeper. Forward Nick Torres (McPherson, Kan.) had a 75% shot (4) to shot-on-goal ratio (3) for the Bulldogs.
Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) recorded three saves in the shutout win for McPherson between the pipes.
With a chance to win the KCAC regular season, Mac makes the short trip to Lindsborg, Kansas to play Bethany College on November 5th; start time is set for 6:30 p.m. (CT)
