McPherson, Kan. – Lady Bulldog softball moved to 4-15 for the season and 0-6 in the KCAC after dropping to contests on Tuesday to the Tabor College Blue Jays. TC rolled in the first competition, taking down Mac in six innings 12-4. In round two, MC lead through five innings but couldn’t hold on, losing 14-9.
Game 1 – at Tabor College – L 12-4
The two squads each tallied one run after the opening inning of the first game. The score stayed close through three and a half innings but then the Lady Jays exploded for seven runs to take a 9-1 advantage. On the verge of losing in five, McPherson put up three in the top of the fifth and then held TC in the bottom half of the inning. After not putting a run on the scoreboard in the sixth, Mac allowed three to Tabor giving the Blue Jays the 12-4 run-rule victory.
Four different MC players garnered their team’s hits; Suzi Hamilton (Raytown, Mo.) led the team in RBI with two coming off her single triple in the fifth. Ariel McGee (Denver, Colo.) and McKenna Deckard (Hutchinson, Kan.) each tabulated one hit and one run scored in their team’s loss.
A whopping 15 hits were logged by TC with Cortnie Killen leading the way with three. Catcher Katie Henning hit two homeruns and brought in a team-high three RBI while scoring three times herself.
Allison Love (Tulsa, Okla.) pitched her ninth complete game of the season, surrendering all 12 runs, 10 that were earned, while striking out and walking none of the 31 batters she came up against.
Game 2 – at Tabor College – L 14-9
After the cold front moved in, the second contest of the day got underway. MC was the first team on the board as they hit in three in the third and then added another in the fourth inning. Tabor skipped by McPherson’s four runs with five of their own in the bottom of four. The Lady ‘Dogs saw TC’s runs with five of their own and then gave up three in the bottom half of the inning to put the score 9-8 Mac heading into the sixth. MC went three up, three down in the sixth and then gave up six to the Lady Jays, giving Tabor the sweep after their 14-9 win.
The Bulldogs upped their hitting performance in game two as they put the ball into play 15 times. McGee went an incredible 4-of-4 from the plate and also earned a walk; she scored twice and brought around one. Three other Mac players totaled two hits while five more had one knock of the ball. Jenna Kaiser (Billings, Mont.) had a team-high five RBI with her two hits.
TC outdid McPherson yet again as they had 18 hits in their win. Sarah Massey went perfect in her four plate appearances with one homerun. Henning had three hits including a solo shot to left-center.
McPherson went through four pitchers in their loss. Kaila Atkinson (Magnolia, Texas) got the start and went three and a third, allowing four earned runs before being relieved by Hamilton. Al. Love came in during the sixth inning and then was replaced herself by Mallory Fowler (Wichita, Kan.) who finished out the inning for MC.
The Lady Bulldogs, weather permitting, are to play their rescheduled game versus Bethel College on Thursday, April 11 in North Newton, Kan.; start time is 5:00 p.m. (CT) for the KCAC doubleheader.
