Ottawa, Kan. – It was a near perfect game for the Lady Bulldogs as they took down OU in the first game of the sunny doubleheader 6-4.  The tables turned in the second contest as the Braves run-ruled Mac 13-3 after five innings.

The 1-11 in the KCAC Bulldogs still sit last in the conference but are just two games out of seventh and with six league games scheduled for the next three days, still have a chance to sneak into the KCAC Postseason Tournament.

Game 1 – at Ottawa University – W 6-4

The Lady ‘Dogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a three-run homerun by freshman Jenna Kaiser (Billings, Mont.) in the first inning;  OU tied things following their at bat in the third.  Another homerun, this time going for two runs and hit by Whitney Miller (Valley Center, Kan.)  launched Mac out in front 5-3 after five.  Both squads scored one in the sixth giving MC the 6-4 victory.

Five hits by five different Bulldogs and two walks led to McPherson’s six runs; Miller had two RBI while Kaiser brought around three.

Ottawa was led by Becca Dunlop’s three hits; the team totaled 11 but left multiple runners on.  Three other Braves hit the ball twice while two more put the ball into play once.

Allison Love (Tulsa, Okla.) pitched all seven innings for Mac, striking out eight; she allowed all four earned runs and walked one of her 35 batters faced.

Game 2 – at Ottawa University – L 13-3

The second contest didn’t go as planned for MC; the lineup stayed the same and Ottawa picked apart the Bulldog defense for 13 total runs, highlighted by a six-run third inning.  McPherson took a while to get the hang of the new pitcher as evident by scoring their three runs in the final two innings of the run-ruled game.

Miller went 2-of-3 from the plate, recording two of the team’s six hits.  Four other Lady ‘Dogs made it safely to first with hits while Ashley Love (Tulsa, Okla.) got on via a walk.  Miller, Kaiser and Amanda (Grace) Baxter (Pueblo, Colo.) were responsible for their team’s runs.

16 hits were tabulated by the Lady Braves with Dunlop and Alyssa Miller each tallying three; three others garnered two and four more had one positive knock of the ball.  Dunlop, along with Amanda Martinsen, led the squad in RBI with three.

Al. Love once again took the mound to start things for MC.  This outing wasn’t as strong as she gave up 11 hits and eight runs, seven that were earned; she had two strikeouts and zero walks in her two and a third inning.  Kaila Atkinson came in relief during the third and completed the game; in her time on the mound, she allowed five hits and five earned runs while striking out one.

Mac is back in action tomorrow, April 25th, as they travel to North Newton for the three-time postponed contest with the Bethel Lady Threshers; start time is 5:00 p.m. (CT) for the doubleheader.
