Manhattan, Kan. – 2013 started off with a bang for McPherson College volleyball as they took down Manhattan Christian in five sets. The two-hour match puts the Lady Bulldogs at 1-0 for the year.
The Crusaders took set one 25-18 but Mac roared back with a 25-10 victory in the second. After dropping set number three 25-14, MC came back from an 18-10 deficit to force a fifth set after their 25-22 triumph. It was all Bulldogs in the final set of the contest as the 15-8 win gave McPherson the victory.
Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) took the assisting title for Mac in the match as she posted 26 assists from her setting position; she also had 13 digs. Freshman Taylor Johnson (Valley Center, Kan.) led the way in kills with 11, she also tallied a team high 15 digs. Juniors Phoebe Barton (Little River, Kan.) and Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) each logged double digit kills.

Up next for Mac is the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla. The two-day event begins on Saturday, August 31 when McPherson squares off with Mid-America Christian at 11:00 a.m. (CT)
