Winfield, Kan. – It only took three sets for the Lady Bulldogs to pull to even in the KCAC after they dismantled Southwestern College 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-22). Mac is now 7-3 for the season and 1-1 in the conference.
McPherson started out a bit sluggish, letting SWC get up early in the first set but a rally quickly put the Lady 'Dogs on ahead and from their they rolled. Set one went MC's way 25-20 as the Bulldogs won the final five points.
In set number two, it was Mac from the get-go. The team quickly got up 16-3 and held off a late surge by the Builders for a 25-16 victory.
The final game of the match was another tight one but McPherson was on top for all but one point. The 25-22 triumph sealed the sweep for MC.
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) and
Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) each ended the match with nine kills apiece; Phelan also tallied four digs and three service aces while Huppe had three blocks.
Taylor Johnson (Valley Center, Kan.) was next on the list for Mac as she recorded eight kills.
On the assisting front,
Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) grabbed 20 in the three set contest. She also logged a team-high 11 digs.
Following their win tonight, MC sits atop the NAIA in digs per set with 25.03 (976 digs in 39 sets) and fifth in total digs with 976.
The LaQuinta-Kansas Wesleyan University Tournament will be where McPherson plays their next match. They are scheduled to play University of Saint Thomas of Houston on September 13th at 4:00 p.m. (CT). Their second match of the tournament is a rematch against Central Methodist University; start time is 8:00 p.m. The squad will get two more competitions coming on Saturday; match one is at 10:30 versus Saint Gregory's and the final one will be at 1:00 p.m. with Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
