Another Split Tournament for Mac Volleyball

McPherson, Kan. – For the second-straight tournament in as many weekends, the Lady Bulldogs came away with two wins and two losses.  MC went 1-1 each day, taking down St. Thomas and St. Gregory's but losing to SWAGU and Central Methodist.

McPherson 3, St. Thomas 0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-23)
It was a collection of three close sets for the first match of the tournament for Mac but the Lady 'Dogs came out on top in three, building momentum for the rest of the tourney.

Newcomers Taylor Johnson (Valley Center, Kan.) and Jacelle Neill (Lemars, Iowa) highlighted match one as Johnson led the team in kills with 12 while Neill toped the squad in digs with 12.  Setters Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) and Ashley Frankenbery (Benton, Kan.) were near even in assists with 12 and 11, respectively.

For the second time this season, MC was dealt a loss by CMU.  Mac gave them a run for their money as they tallied over 20 points in each set.  This was the first match of the season that McPherson had been held to zero sets one.

Sophomore middle hitter Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) had a team-high 11 kills with a .364 hitting percentage.  Once again Neill led the group in digs (12) and Phillips out assisted Frankenbery by one (14, 13).

The opening match of day two was a relatively quick one for the Lady Bulldogs as they were able to hold SGU to 13 in the opening two sets and then win with some reserves playing in the third.

Another close match rounded out the KWU tournament for Mac.  SWAGU took advantage early but the 'Dogs didn't go without a fight, winning set two and nearly forcing a fifth.

Huppe totaled 13 kills on 23 attempts and also had two blocks.  Phillips posted 26 assists and 12 digs, both team highs.

MC still leads the NAIA in digs per set with 22.80 and is now also leading the Nation in total digs with 1190.

The team's first home match of the season is next on the schedule for McPherson as they host 10-3 Tabor College on September 18th; start time is set for 7:00 p.m. (CT)
