McPherson, Kan. – Playing on the campus of Kansas City Kansas Community College, McPherson College and No. 16 MidAmerica Nazarene University's men's soccer squads got together for an evening soccer match. After 90 minutes, the scoreboard showed the Pioneers as the victors by a score of 3-0.
"We played very well tonight in the run of play," said head coach Doug Quint. "It was a positive step forward for us. MNU is a great team and they executed their set piece opportunities well tonight."
Two quick goals put MidAmerica Nazarene in the driver's seat early as the Bulldogs had to play catch-up. Mac took eight shots at the goal in the opening 45 but the 2-0 lead stayed with MNU all the way through halftime.
In the second period, Mac had a hard time finding any shot opportunities as just four were taken. The Pioneers put another pas the MC keeper, going up 3-0 with 15 to play.
The game ended with McPherson taking 12 shots but only putting one on frame. Nick Torres (McPherson, Kan.) tallied four of those opportunities while Rafael Fuentes (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Johnny Nuthall (Reno, Nev.) each put three towards the keeper.
MidAmerica Nazarene totaled 13 shots and troubled the goalie seven times.
It was a game full of yellow cards as the two team combined for seven, three coming the Bulldogs' way.
Taylor Parrott (Wichita, Kan.) logged the loss for MC, picking up four saves to go along with his three goals allowed.
Mac gets a few days of rest and preparation before their annual inner-town contest with the Central Christian College Tigers. Kickoff for the September 25th match is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (CT)
