McPherson, Kan. – Despite outshooting the Central Christian Tigers 34-8, Mac drops to 1-6-1 after the 3-0 loss to CCC.
"Tonight we proved that a team can dominate every aspect of a game and still lose," stated Coach Talley. "We've been struggling with our finishing in the final third and it bit us hard tonight. Two missed penalty kicks and five missed 1vs1's will sink any team."
MC shot the ball four times prior to Central's first goal of the game which came on their second shot and 13:34 minutes into the contest. 11 more tries at goal were attempted by the Lady Bulldogs before halftime but they were unable to find the back of the net.
In the second period, CCC came out and got ahead 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the half on an own goal by McPherson. Mac continued to bombard the opposing team's goalie including taking a penalty kick but still couldn't get it past Twila Smedley of Central. The Lady Tigers popped another in with 15 to play, sealing the 3-0 win.
A staggering 34 shot attempts were taken by MC in their loss, 14 found their way to the keeper.
Gabriela Navarro (Wichita, Kan.) led the 'Dogs in shots with eight and was closely followed by
Jessica Dominguez (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who had seven; each placed three on target. Both
Haley Anderson (Highland Village, Texas) and
Allie Hicks (Bedford, Texas) tallied four cracks at goal.
Sophomore goalie
Makenzie Smith (Rose Hill, Kan.) recorded the loss for Mac; she made two saves while allowing the three goals.
Following 10 days rest, MC will begin conference play as they host Bethel College on October 5th; start time for the homecoming match is 1:00 p.m. (CT) on the grass field.
