McPherson, Kan. – The Mac volleyball squad had a pair of games this Saturday as they hosted a triangular with Bethany College and Missouri Valley College.  The Lady 'Dogs came away from the event winning one and losing the other as they took the Swedes down 3-0 but were defeated by MVC, also a 3-0 match.
 
Against BC, McPherson got out fast in each one of their sets, highlighted by a 25-9 victory in the second. Game one went their way 25-21 while the third was ended on a 9-1 run by MC, the final was 25-18.
 
In the match with Missouri Valley, the Vikings were coming off a 3-0 victory over Bethany so came out firing, getting ahead quick in set one.  Mac didn't back down and narrowly forced overtime in the opening game but fell 25-22.  Set two was about the same with Mo. Valley getting up quick and holding off a late Bulldog surge, winning 25-20.  The final game was once again run by the Lady Vikings who took it 25-16.
 
Tori Phelan (Rangely, Colo.) had a stellar day for McPherson as she totaled 26 kills, 13 in each match; she also tallied 11 digs and was credited with two solo blocks.  Cortlyne Huppe (Florence, Colo.) showed up big for MC as well, garnering 12 kills in each of the matches; the sophomore had three assisted blocks on the day.
 
Senior setter Rachel Phillips (Maize, Kan.) saw her stats jump this weekend as the team switched to a 5-1 rotation.  She logged 67 assists, 14 digs, four kills, and four block assists in the two match triangular.
 
With the rotation change, freshman Emily Warner (Wichita, Kan.) spent more time on the court as the team's libero; she totaled 24 digs and one kill for Mac.
 
The Lady Bulldogs have a busy week ahead of them as they travel to Hays, Kansas to play NCAA D-II Fort Hays State University on Monday then follow that up with a match at home against Bethel College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (CT).  To top it all off, MC will then travel to Ottawa University for a match on October 5th.
