McPherson, Kan. – There were not many points to be had in Saturday's matchup between McPherson College women and the Haskell Indian Nations University Indians as HINU took out the 'Dogs 48-42.  The pair of losses in their home Classic moves MC's record to 7-9; they are 4-8 against non-conference opponents.

In the second matchup between these two clubs, McPherson trailed for a good portion of it.  It was a neck-and-neck battle in the opening minutes but Haskell seemed to be in control as the Lady Bulldogs struggled to find the bottom of the hoop.  The largest lead for HINU came with five minutes left in the half at 24-14.  As the period came to a close MC found themselves in a 27-21 hole.

The 'Dogs counted 8-of-28 from the floor with three of their makes coming from beyond the arc; two of their four free throws went through.  Haskell hit just one more bucket but saw six three balls fall; 3-of-4 from the foul stripe was recorded by the Indians.

Half number two started with a quick surge by HINU to get ahead by double-digits at 34-23.  Mac's deficit fluctuated between five and 11 points but the 'Dogs could never get within a basket.  Being ahead by 10+ with less than two minutes to play, Haskell coasted to their six-point victory.

The shooting percentage for Mac improved to 31.3 in the second period; five of just 16 baskets were made with 50% of their four threes and 9-of-16 free throws going in.  The Indians continued to shoot the long ball but only counted a pair on 15 attempts; they scored 9-of-28 field goals and cashed in on one of their two foul shots.

McPherson made 13-of-44 enroute to their second lowest score total of the season; 5-of-13 three point baskets were bucketed as were 11-of-20 free throws.  The team pulled down 34 rebounds, four less than the Indians.  20 turnovers and nine assists along with eight steals were tabulated by Mac.  Exactly half of the Bulldogs' points were scored by bench players.

Not a single player for MC hit the double-digit mark in either points or rebounds.  The squad was led by Breahna Gillespie (Little River, Kan.) and Chandler Short (Edgewood, Texas) in schoring, both of which had nine; each player hit three field goals with Gillespie making a pair of threes and Short hitting one.  Bailey Brown (Glen Elder, Kan.) topped the squad in both rebounds and assists with seven and four, respectively.

KCAC play starts back up for McPherson on Thursday, January 9 when they travel to Hillsboro, Kansas to face the 8-6 Tabor College Blue Jays for a 6:00 p.m. (CT) tipoff.
