Hillsboro, Kan. – The Lady Bulldog will hope to forget about Thursday's contest against the Tabor College Blue Jays as the 90-48 defeat was the second-worst of the season and not the way Mac wanted to start KCAC play back up. McPherson is now 7-10 on the year and 3-2 against conference opponents.
In the opening period, the 'Dogs started slow and then couldn't make up the ground they lost, heading into halftime down 41-28.
Chandler Short (Edgewood, Texas) posted 10 first half points for MC on 4-of-5 shooting with a pair of three balls.
Half number two didn't bring any good fortune for the Lady Bulldogs as their shooting woes continued. Tabor on the other hand seemed to have all the luck in the world as everything they threw up fell in. By the midway point of the final 20 minutes, TC was ahead by 20+ and put in their second team. With five to play, both squads decided to let their junior varsity squads finish out the game.
Mac closed out the contest with a 31.6% shooting percentage, seeing 18-of-57 go through the net; they counted 4-of-19 from downtown and 8-of-13 from the foul stripe. The Lady Jays knocked down 52.4 percent of their 63 attempts including 10 from beyond the arc; 14-of-18 free throws were counted by Tabor in their win. TC owned the glass on Thursday as they gobbled up 45 rebounds to McPherson's 18; the 'Dogs had an even nine and nine in terms of offensive and defensive boards. MC also netted 18 turnovers, 10 assists and seven steals in the loss.
Short ended with a team-high 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting with 3-of-5 from range.
Cami Engelbert (Beloit, Kan.) added 10 for the Lady Bulldogs; she drained a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor.
Aubrey Barton (Pratt, Kan.) tallied nine points while
Riley White (Olathe, Kan.) led the team in rebounds with eight.
The Lady Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan University will be the next opponent for McPherson as the 'Dogs host KWU on January 11
th; tipoff for the junior varsity is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (CT) with the varsity getting underway at 5:00
