Torres' Hat-trick Boosts MC Past Friends

McPherson, Kan. – A tight game turned into a rout as McPherson took down Friends University 5-2 on Wednesday.  The Bulldogs are now 7-3-2 on the year and 3-0-1 in the KCAC.

"What a great win for us," said Coach Quint.  "We had our backs against the wall today with a lot of guys having to sit for various reasons.  It opened up the opportunity for guys to step up and they did that.  Friends was better than us in many aspects today expect in finishing.  We were absolutely clinical in front of the goal.  My hat's off to our guys for finding a way to win."

Friends got a quick one in the sixth minute to take an early 1-0 lead.  The 'Dogs bounced back with a pair of goals in a 10-minute span; Oscar Cortez finagled his way around the Falcon defense after receiving an Octavio Villa pass in the 11th and then Kevin Ndongo put in a beautiful 1v1 goal in the 16th to give MC a 2-1 advantage which they took to the end of the first period. Coming out of the halftime break, the Falcons scored again to even it out but less than two minutes later and Nick Torres started his streak.  The sophomore scored in the 55th minute on an assist from Cortez; he put another in a few minutes later and then finished off the Falcons with his third in the 87th minute.

The Bulldogs were outshot by Friends 25-15 and 12-6 on shots on goal.  Ndongo took a team-high five shots and put two on target.  Both Torres and Cortez shot the ball four times at the goal; Torres had three on frame, all of which were goals.

Freshman Tanner Horton got the start in goal for McPherson and tallied 10 saves and two goals allowed.

McPherson takes on the University of Saint Mary on October 18th which is homecoming for the Bulldogs; start time for the afternoon game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (CT) at the Kennel.
