Box Score North Newton, Kan. – Lady Bulldog soccer recorded their first shutout of 2014 as they took down Bethel College 2-0 on Saturday. This was the first conference game of the year, starting the KCAC season off on the right foot for McPherson.
It was a very MC led match as the 'Dogs used their two weeks of preparation to give themselves multiple opportunities. Though they did not score until the second period, McPherson shot the ball 13 times in the opening half, putting the pressure on the Lady Threshers. BC came out firing in the second but the Bulldogs weathered the storm and Mac's Cydney Lewis scored the game's first goal less than 12 minutes into the period. Shortly thereafter and the Lady 'Dogs were celebrating again as Rhea Vale slotted in a Rebekah Gallegos-Romero pass to bring the score to 2-0 for McPherson. MC held Bethel to just four shots the rest of the way, giving the Bulldogs the 2-0 victory.
22 total shots were taken by Mac and Gallegos-Romero led the team with four total shots, three going on frame; Gabriela Navarro took three shots to put her second on the team. Both Vale and Alia Khalidi each took two shots and put both on target.
Senior goalie Tori Verdieck tallied six saves in her shutout win for MC.
A tough Kansas Wesleyan University squad is next on the docket for the Lady Bulldogs; the two clubs face each other on October 8th at 6:30 p.m. (CT) in McPherson.
