Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

One Down, One to Go

Topeka, Kan. – The McPherson College men's soccer team is one game away from a birth to the NAIA National Championships as they beat Friends University 2-0 in the semifinals of the 2014 KCAC Men's Soccer Tournament

Overall it was a McPherson controlled first half.  The Falcons held possession for the opening minutes but MC took charge a short while in.  The period ended in a 0-0 tie but the 'Dogs took seven shots compared to four of FU.

In the second half, Alex Ronneburg broke the tie in the 53rd minute as he slotted a ball off of the keeper.  The McPherson attack continued and after a Falcon was dismissed after his second yellow, the Bulldogs scored their second goal of the night as Oscar Cortez put in a Nick Torres pass.  The defense of Mac held for the final few minutes, giving the 'Dogs their 2-0 win.

McPherson held an 18-to-11 advantage on shots taken and were led by Cortez who had four, all of which went on frame.  Torres took three but went wide on all of his chances.

Tanner Horton and the Bulldog D recorded their fifth-straight shutout.  Horton was only called upon twice to make saves.

MC is scheduled to take on the winner of the other semifinal, No. 2 Kansas Wesleyan University and No. 3 Bethany College, on Saturday the 15th; start time is set for 5:00 p.m. (CT).  The winner of that match will earn the automatic bid to the NAIA postseason.
