McPherson, Kan. – The McPherson College women's basketball team had a tough time putting points on the board on Thursday as they lost to Kansas Wesleyan University 76-40. MC now sits at 2-11 on the year and is 1-2 in the conference.
The Lady Coyotes took off from the get-go, going up 15-2. Mac didn't hit double-digits until there were just four minutes left in the half; turnovers and missed shots from behind the arc were the main contributing factors. The Bulldogs were fortunate that KWU went cold in the second half of the period and only trailed 30-18 at the break. McPherson made just 7-of-29 field goals with only 1-of-12 three balls falling through; they had 15 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. The Coyotes shot in 11-of-27 with 4-of-12 from distance.
In the second, MC gave up eight straight and quickly saw themselves down 20. The Kansas Wesleyan lead stayed above 20 for the final 15 minutes; their advantage peaked at 37 with just a couple minutes remaining. KWU took the game 76-40. The 'Dogs hit on 7-of-24 from the floor and continued to struggle from deep, making a mere 1-of-9. The Coyotes made 50% of their 30 shot attempts and counted 6-of-12 from three-point land.
Mac scored on 14-of-53 field goals in the 40-minute contest; they went 2-of-21 from deep and 10-of-17 from the charity stripe. 33 rebounds were totaled by McPherson with 10 coming on the offensive end of the court. The 'Dogs turned the ball over 24 times while tabulating 12 assists, 10 steals and four blocks. 28 of their points were scored in the paint and 16 came from their bench players.
Alicia Demaret was the lone Bulldog to hit double-digits with her 14 points; she went 6-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-3 from the foul line. Bailey Brown counted nine points and also brought in six rebounds. Georgia Smart led the team in rebounds with nine, five of which were offensive boards.
McPherson will host Tabor College on December 13th at 5:00 p.m. (CT) for their last game of 2014.
