Box Score

Wichita, Kan. – Much like their first half debacle when they traveled to Ottawa University in mid-January, the McPherson women's basketball squad came out flat on the road on Thursday, scoring just 11 points in the first 20 minutes.  Following a second half that consisted of plenty of JV playing time, the clock struck zeroes with the home team Friends University Falcons earning a 93-51 victory.

It was slow goings for both teams in the opening minutes with double-digits not being reached until nearly five minutes had passed; unfortunately for Mac, they were then sitting in a 10-0 hole as they recorded seven missed shots and a pair of turnovers to that point in the half.  Over the next 10 minutes, Friends pushed their lead to 20 points, going on a 13-0 run.  McPherson finally gained some traction in the final minutes but still closed out the period trailing 42-11.

The Bulldogs connected on just two of their seven first half field goals with all seven three-point attempts failing to make their way through; they cashed in on 7-of-10 from the free throw line.  Friends counted 11-of-30 with 5-of-16 going in from long range; they also made 5-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Mac got into a 40-point hole to start the second period but kept their deficit in the 30s for most of the game's final 20 minutes; they pulled within 29 but never any closer.  Junior varsity players from both teams played the last 16 minutes of the contest which ended in a 93-51 win for the Lady Falcons.

MC heavily increased their field goal percentage in the second half, making 60% of their shot attempts; the only issue is that they only put 15 balls towards the rim, knocking down nine.  The 'Dogs put 10-of-15 free throw tries through the net.  Friends was 10-of-21 in the final 20, converting on 7-of-11 from behind the arc; 10-of-18 shots from the stripe fell for the Falcons.

The 'Dogs ended the competition with a 50% shooting percentage as 11-of-22 shots fell through for the game; they made 4-of-16, 25%, from distance and 17-of-25 from the foul line.  39 total boards were netted by McPherson, 15 coming on the offensive end of the court.  Mac logged 25 turnovers, nine assists, four blocks and three steals in their loss; FU scored 28 points off of the Bulldogs' turnovers.

Bailey Brown (Glen Elder, Kan.) led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points coming off 5-of-7 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe; she also tabbed three rebounds.  Aubrey Barton (Pratt, Kan.) made three of her six field goals and both free throws for eight points, second on the team.  Whitney Jefferson (Katy, Texas) scored four points, all from the foul stripe, rebounded four balls, all defensive, and dished out four assists.

Next up for MC is a home contest with the Tabor College Blue Jays on February 8th; start time for Pink Out Night is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (CT) – be sure to wear your Pink!
